Peaches Interviews Sleep Signals - April 2023

play Play pause Pause

The Artist Interrogations podcast. It's Beaches on KBR 101, sitting down with Sleep Signals in studio. A lot of guests in here. We've got the whole band in here. The first time I ever actually got to interview the full band.

So thank you guys for coming in. Yeah. Thanks for having us, man. Should we just go down the line of introducing yourself? Sure.

I'm Robert. I'm the vocalist. My name is Grant and I play guitar. I'm Jay. I do lead guitar.

My name is Wyatt. I play drums. Awesome. Awesome. So I just asked you guys off there how the drive was straight highway.

Perfectly fine for you guys. The weather's finally nice around here. Finally. Thankfully. I think when you guys go to the next stop, that's when it's gonna get colder again.

So you guys brought the heat today. It's 60 degrees. We're bringing the heat to, like, Fargo and Minneapolis and stuff too. It was supposed to be, like, in the sixties, I think, when we get there. Oh, really?

Not too bad. Yeah. Good. And you guys are from Minnesota, all of you? Or originally, we're from Minneapolis, but we relocated the band out to, the Pacific Northwest.

So we're a Redmond, Oregon band now like Central Oregon. Oh, very cool. Yeah. I'm from Seal Beach, California. So Right on.

Moved out here 2 years ago and of course joined all the other Californians so I get yelled at constantly. You know, when I first moved out here, the California license plate, they track you down out there. If you go 5 miles over the speed limit, pulled over immediately ticketed. Right. One of those things.

I think it's kind of like that everywhere. Tell me about the single one life like what's it all about man because I love hearing the backstory behind the tracks. Yeah, so, one life was about, coming back from our bus rack and everything that we had back in 21. We were out on tour with POD in from ashes to new, and, a semi driver fell asleep, hit us, in our bus, and we rolled our bus. Everybody was in the hospital and rehab for a really long time, and, you know, we weren't really sure if we're gonna be able to tour again or, you know, do do band stuff ever again.

So, you know, 1 Life is is kind of about coming back from that and, you know, not taking anything for granted and, you know, just just enjoying the time that we have doing the thing that we love to do. That's fantastic. Wow. I didn't even know about this. So a big bus accident you guys went through?

Yeah. Yeah. So, like I said, a semi driver fell asleep. He was going 77 miles per hour when he hit us. It was, like, 4 o'clock in the morning.

We rolled our bus, and, yeah, every everybody was, pretty messed up. Our bass player, he's not with the band anymore now. Unfortunately, you know, had some really gnarly injuries especially, but, yeah, we're just, like I said, we're really thankful, really fortunate to be back on the road and and doing the thing again. How many stops have you guys done so far for this tour? Well this is the 2nd leg of the tour.

The first tour, first leg we did. How many how many we had 16, 18 something like that on the first leg and this one we've got 29 on the second leg and, this is day 4. So pretty early on the second leg right now. Oh, cool. And besides driving all over the place, when you guys are in town, do you guys go stop get food from somewhere or what do you guys usually do besides the show?

Yeah. We try to. I mean, we try to keep in shape and everything so we work out a lot, and we, you know, we definitely try to to go to, any of the local, you know, the we'll talk to the locals and find out what the good spots are to go eat and always try to get, like, the local staple, you know, and everything. So Right. It's, we're we're all kind of foodies too.

So, you know, we like to to try all the local stuff. I I think there's a place called Big Judd's kind of right around here. You remember that show Man Versus Food? I do. Yeah.

They have that, like, huge burger. I think it's, like, £2. Nice. So if you guys wanna try that at some point. That's not super healthy, man.

Right. Talk to you. Yeah. When you guys are touring, obviously, I've noticed with the last one you had Becoming the Apex as part of the show too in Boise. Right?

Yeah. Yep. Fall of Fathom and, Becoming the Apex, were on the show last night. Both really great bands. Yeah.

And did you have any other, like, Boise local bands too? Because I noticed with this one you have Idaho Falls local or East Idaho local bands too as part of the show. Yeah. Yeah. There were 2 other locals on that show as well.

Crimson Divide and, Dissonance. We, yeah, we really try to throw local on, you know, all the shows that we can and try to support the locals as much as we can. We're in it. We're an independent band, so we don't have a label, you know, kind of dictating what we have to do and what we can't do. So we really like to support, you know, local bands.

We were a local band at one point. Every band was a local band at one point, so it's really important to us to put locals on the shows and, try to get them in front of people. Absolutely. They're very excited. I know when this interview airs, I'm actually gonna put it at 4 PM when we do 4 locals only.

So we do 4 tracks from 4 local bands in the area, and I actually lined up today, all the bands performing with you guys. I Am Hyde, Securian Impulse, Lost Asylum, Modern Methods 2. So That's super awesome. Yeah. And have you guys seen have you guys been to the Heart yet or before?

No. This will be the first time that we've played there. I think it's fairly new. It is. Yeah.

It's it's a really nice room. I mean, I've been there once before for another local show, and it was really cool just to have that another venue in town because we just got that Mountain America Center, I don't know if you guys saw that. Around here, for some reason, rock and metal is huge. Yeah. I don't know what it is, but, like, everybody in this area loves, like, metalcore, deathcore, and all that.

So, like, we were playing Lorna Shore at, like, all times of the day. Just yeah. That's awesome. To be honest, man, it's probably because of y'all, dude. Because Oh, yeah.

Like, that's that's huge Uh-huh. Having a radio station that supports that kind of music. Right. Like, I'm from the Portland area. So is Alex.

And, yeah, we used to have a radio station out there that, 101.1 that died off, years ago, and and it's really hurt the scene, man. Wow. That sucks because I know a lot of modern rock stations, like, they will go hard and heavy and they play, like, Red Hot Chili Peppers or something. And, like, the heaviest they'll go is disturbed. I don't know if you guys can see, on that screen over there.

But last night, we had Jang Show. So that's our 4 hour not but nothing but crushing brutal metal show. So we got, like, Dillinger Escape Plan. Nice. You know, Suicide Silence, Organectomy, all those bands.

Yeah. I see Hatebreed, Unearth, Shadows Fall. That's awesome. That's so sick, dude. Yeah.

It's crazy how, like, everybody just neglects those bands for some reason. And, like, when we play them, they try to get them to acknowledge us on Facebook. Like, hey, we're playing your music. They don't care about radio because nobody's playing them at all Right. Whatsoever.

So I know, like, most recently, I think I had Chase well, do you guys know the band Upsulfur? I don't. Okay. I've heard of them, actually. Yeah.

Yeah. They're like a heavier band. I had Chase Wilson on the show and he's really cool. I'm trying to get more like the because people do love this that type of music around here. It's pretty intense.

Like, it's just it's crazy how it goes. Really dope. But you guys have the new single out to, Fearless as well. Is that what it's called? Yeah.

Yeah. It just dropped. So, should be, going to radio pretty hard here with that song, pretty soon too. And, fearless again is like another song that we kind of wrote, like, we kind of wrote both those songs about coming back from the from the bus wreck and everything, and fearless is about kind of, you know, if you've seen the music video, it kind of makes sense, but like taking off the proverbial bandage, you know, and kind of, getting back to our thing, and and not letting this get in our way and stop us. That's kinda what fearless is about too.

So both those songs kinda came out of, you know, out of the bus rack and everything and and the experiences that we went through. It was obviously a big part of our lives, you know, so, you know, it definitely, stems some music, for us. So Right. And the music video is for 1 Life, right? We just dropped a music video for Fearless.

For Fearless too? Okay. Yeah. Yeah. And, yeah.

1 Life was more of a performance video. Fearless, we had, like, some performance shots and stuff, but then, we got, we we kind of had some fun with it. We got, you know, we kind of wrapped me up with a bunch of bandages and got a bunch of gnarly black, goo and just kind of, I don't know. If you see the video, you'll see what I'm talking about. It was kind of messy.

It was dirty. It was, but it was fun. It was a lot of fun. And do you guys usually do, like, big productions when it comes to music videos? Are you guys wanting to do more of those?

Yeah, we we try to. We've done, you know, a couple of really big production kind of things where, we've, you know, done a lot of green screen kind of stuff. We've got one for our song Digital Sleep that's, you know, very futuristic cyberpunk kind of stuff. We've got a video that we did like Victorian era, kind of stuff called The Return, came out super cool, but, yeah, we the Fearless video, we flew out to St. Louis and, worked with Juan Abenas out there.

He's been doing he did the the latest Atreyu video. He's just did a bunch of 7 Dust videos. Really great, director and, but he he was really able to bring the the fearless video to life and it it it turned out super cool. That's really cool because I know music videos is a lost art too. Everybody, for some reason, neglects those and I love them.

I love seeing, like, the crazy ones. I don't know if you guys have heard of that band called Samurai Pizza Cats. They're kind of like a lower tier band. I haven't. But but Oh, yeah.

I've heard of them. You've heard of them too? Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah.

They had Nico in their one of their latest tracks from Electric Call Boy and, of course, Electric Call Boy is huge for their music videos. And so this song Pizza Homicide, it's so silly. But I just love the silly music videos or, like, great production music videos. Like, Rammstein too puts on the craziest ones you've ever seen and Absolutely. Yeah.

So it's it's awesome you guys are still doing those too. Really cool. But glad you guys were able to come in today. Anything, you know did you guys get any Easter baskets this morning or something like that? Or Not not yet.

But I I think, one of our one of our, close friends is coming out to show mentioned something about some Easter baskets. So we might we might get some some surprises later. We'll we'll see. Oh, cool. Well, that's awesome.

Well, yeah. Thank you guys all for joining me today. Really appreciate it and, looking forward to that show tonight. I don't know how many, tickets have officially sold, but I'm assuming it's probably gonna be jam packed in there. I think it'll be pretty packed.

Yeah. So make sure if you're if you're coming out and you're trying to get tickets at the door, make sure that you, try to get there early because, it it might sell out.
